Predatory Lending Team Celebrates Victories and Expands its Ally List

The predatory lending team reels in the sharks

at its NPA workshop.

NPA representatives packed the predatory lending workshop to hear about the victory stories in affiliate cities.

Iowa Citizens for Community Improvement highlighted its partnership with Ameriquest. The East Side Organizing Project (ESOP) shared its victory changing the way foreclosure data is reported in the city of Cleveland. Cincinnati is now including predatory lending warning information in their water bills thanks to the organizing efforts of Working In Neighborhoods Action Organizing Project, and Chicago’s South Austin Coalition Community Council shared its experience in getting the Illinois State Anti-Predatory Lending Law passed.

NPA is on the hunt for more loan sharks and sharpening its tools. A legislative campaign was launched at the workshop, and NPA received commitments from Standard & Poors Ratings and the Bond Market Association to work with us on this issue. The FTC was also present and reaffirmed its partnership with NPA. Key executives from CitiFinancial introduced the next phase of its partnership with NPA: financial education.
