Injured leader, wife fired from jobs in Iowa
Raúl Rodríguez, an active member of Latinos en Acción de CCI (a chapter of Iowa CCI), had been working at Swift and Company in Marshalltown, Iowa for 10 years. In May 2005, he was on his way to Mexico with Gracie, his 12-year-old daughter, when they had a terrible accident. Due to his severe injuries, Raúl couldn’t travel or work for 45 days. His wife Hilda, who also worked at Swift for 10 years, went to Mexico shortly after the accident to take care of her family. Hilda also notified Swift of the accident and that she was exercising her right to care for her injured family under the Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA). When they returned to Swift in July to start working again, Swift management told the couple that there was no work and that they had “quit.”
Raúl and Hilda never quit their jobs!
Swift fired them, which is a violation of Swift’s contract with the union and of the FMLA.
Please help bring Justice to Raúl and Hilda.
Call Cheryl Hughlette at the Swift Human Resources office at (641) 752-9309 and demand that they bring Raúl and Hilda back to work.
