National People's Action Finds Weapons of Mass Destruction in America

While so much political attention and money are focused abroad looking for weapons of mass destruction, NPA is traveling to Washington, DC to expose the weapons that are devestating neighborhoods across the country.

The weapons of mass destruction are corporations that strip communities of their permanent jobs, homes, farms, clean water and air, and their wealth. Weapons of mass destruction are also public institutions that deny access to quality education and job training, opportunities for immigrants and youth, and who allow drugs and crime to flourish.

To eliminate these weapons, government officials, corporations and politicians must invest in our neighborhoods by choosing NPA’s People’s Platform and VOTING Neighborhoods First!

NPA is the most diverse, dynamic and powerful coalition in the country. The conference is our annual opportunity for grassroots leaders to travel from cities, rural plains and small towns across the U.S. and fight and win together on the issues most important to all of us.

It has been only 10 exciting months since our last NPA conference. Highlights from 2003 include:

  • Partnership agreement with largest bank in the world - CitiFinancial
  • Six hits - including the home of former HUD Secretary Mel Martinez and the office of the Federation for American Immigration Reform
  • Six congressional brefings with Senators and Representatives
  • Saving of 700 units of public housing in Cincinnati

On the heels of such success and fun last year, NPA organizations are gearing up again for NPA 33. This year NPA is celebrating the Pork Check-off victory for family farmers and a new national agreement with Fairbanks Capital Corporation to reform its predatory servicing practices.

NPA’s 2004 People’s Platform is determined by real people working through their neighborhood organizations, not by think tanks, pundits or special interest groups.
